We wanted something safe to use for our minature poodle who appeared to be very afraid of anyone besides our immediate family. He would bark constantly at everybody and anybody who came to visit. This product worked wonderfully for us and for him. We put the collar on him when we know someone is coming over. Initially he barks 2-3 times before he realizes that he is doing that to himself and then he stops. He actually becomes more sociable because of this. It's almost as if his own barking scared HIM!
