I have 10 dogs and was always worried about them getting out of my yard somehow. After I bought and installed this product my worries are over. The dogs were shocked only a few times until they learned where the boundries were. After that they wouldn't even try to leave the yard with the collars on.

All of my 10 collars have been working well for over a year now and have only needed recharging twice. Every other system I looked at, had some expense associated with it, like special batteries or rechargable collars so there is a price to pay with all of them, but the costs are almost the same between the different systems.

The installation of the boundry wire is the hardest part with setting the system up, but that is going to depend on your property.

I also own a wireless system that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. If there are trees on the property, you have a metal roof, buildings or uneven terrain they don't work well in my experience. After my dogs escaped twice through a dead spot I gave up on them. I don't think they are ready for the real world yet, but I am keeping an open mind because the installation is effortless.


This system works well and works everytime. For me with 10 dogs and about $1000 of related expenses every 2 years or so, I would not be without it.

I am debating just getting slip covers for the couches and resuming to regular nail trimming since that is the only problem. They miss scratching their scratching posts (it is a source of leisure and exercise for them too), dislike having these put on especially if these fall off so fast anyways, and the event with getting stuck at the carpet was very scary. Oh yes, the price I find to be high. $20 for 40 and having to continuously replace those can get costly. I don't recommend the pet corrector unless you can't find the pet convincer anywhere. I bought both products and they both arrived in the last 2 days. I tried both and the pet convincer seemed to be more effective even though the Pet Corrector product gave off a much more powerful sounding hiss.

I think this product is basically the same as the compressed gas you can buy for cleaning computer keyboards and the pet corrector is more expensive than the typical can of "compressed air".

If you don't care about the potential danger of this product, it does seem to be effective. It seems to be a workable way to correct your dog from unwanted behavior, but I don't like the fact that it uses a refrigerant.

The 50 ml cannister is a very handy size and my big dissapointment stems from the fact that it's not compressed air as I thought when I ordered it.

Cheap Innotek Ultrasmart Contain and Train

One must take the time to sift through reviews of marginal relevance. If someone purchases a product, installs it, uses it for an hour, a day, or a week, can that person deliver a valuable review of said product? I do not purchase items with the expectation of them lasting a short period of time. What follows is a long term commentary on Innotek's Contain N' Train inground pet fencing system.

We purchased this exact model in 2008. The reviews describing unacceptable battery life are correct. Additionally, this company's technology is unreliable. At first the collar and remote operated as advertised. After about 2 weeks we noticed the collar would not operate once removed from the charger - the red light would stay on. The manual states this is a self test failure - just need to place back on charger and then remove to reset. This became very frequent, sometimes would not be corrected by placing back on the charger, and was not acceptable. I called the company Innotek, and they admitted it was faulty and sent a new one - I had to send the faulty one back. Everything was fine until another 5-6 months had passed. The new collar started to do the same thing but was much more sporadic - would not work once every few days and would correct itself if placed back on the charger. I thought great, this product is malfunctioning AGAIN. Also, the collar was requiring charging more frequently than when brand new, so I knew the battery was developing a problem. Originally, it required charging every few weeks as I recall, but now was requiring it once per week. The fencing itself seemed to functioning as intended. I would periodically check it to ensure it was working. The dog only went through the fence a couple times and was shocked as he ran through it. He learned to respect the boundary. Most problems encountered by this time were with the collar itself.

We then had a baby. Well, the dog (cavapoo) was given to a relative because it started peeing and pooping on all of the baby's items. We tried showering it with attention, then discipline, etc but still was occurring after several months. The relative took the collar and remote. The remote's red button had poor durability. After about one year from the original purchase, the plastic covering over the button had broken; the button still worked but the housing was cracked and looked poor. Also, I noticed that the range of the remote was significantly less than when it was new. This was even though NEW batteries were placed in the remote and several different brands were tried in an attempt to improve range. The battery in the collar itself was lasting only about one day before indicating a recharge necessary. I had followed the instructions regarding recharging explicitly in an effort to avoid developing "battery memory". I only charged it when the light glowed red indicating a charge was necessary (never charged when the light was amber which indicates 60-20% charge remaining). The relative was instructed on this as well. Long story short, the collar and remote were completely kaputt in less than 18 months. Completely unacceptable for a product costing north of $325. Overall I am very pleased with this product. It took about six hours to install on a 1/2 acre lot. I used a straight edge shovel. I did not splice the connecting wires to the loop as indicated in the directions, as I had to use additional wire, and needed to use one of the waterproof splices for that purpose. I simply made sure I had enough wire to reach the unit inside the house, and then I cut a slit into a wooden wedge and secured it in the ground approximately three inches at the point of the loop before twisting the wire with the drill as directed. This seemed to make more sense anyway, rather than cutting and splicing unnecessarily.

The training process went fairly quickly, as my Vizsla soon understood the boundaries. I did have an issue with the collar stretching a bit, which resulted in no shock being delivered when he ran after a robin in the next yard. Fortunately I saw this happen, and after tracking him down, I tightened the collar, widened the field, and set the level to medium. He does not venture near the boundary now. The collar has loosened again, so I would recommend checking the fit each time you put it on.
