I have used this model of training collar for almost 7 years now and I can tell you it works. My Basenji learned to come to my whistle with just 3 presses of the stimulation button... and she never forgot it. I see this model SD-100A is still being produced with a slightly different style transmitter (remote), but seems to still be available. The one pictured here is the old style and I'm assuming that's why it's so high priced (it's discontinued). Do a web search before buying as I found them as low as $110. My transmitter just doesn't have the range anymore, after almost 7 years, so I'm shopping for a new one.
