I was not a believer when I first ordered this product. I tried whistles, rocks in a can and an E collar to no avail. Our 87lb Giant Schnauzer, Buddy, just loved to bark at passing cars and strangers. When someone knocked on the door he went ballistic and had to be moved to the patio. The E collar worked, but not consistently. Sometimes the prongs weren't just right on his neck. Then when I thought about it, why would I want to shock him? I read a lot about the E collar and how to use it correctly. I thought if there was just something else that would break his attention when he got so focused on his barking and sometimes aggressive behavior. He was a perfect gentleman in every other way and a gentle giant. Well, after reading some reviews on not the product, but the theory of how an ultrasonic sound can break a dogs focus, I thought this might be worth a try. I checked out most models and settled on this one because it had a higher decibels. All of these ultrasonic devices seem to use the same frequency. When I received it, I was satisfied with the feel and look. I first used it just to see if it would get our Giant's attention. Sure enough it did. He stopped what he was doing and looked at me. I listened in a quiet room by myself to see if I would hear it. Sure enough I did. It was like taking one of those hearing tests and when the sound gets higher and higher to where you just hear a slight hiss, that was the sound I heard. When I put it close to my ear, it annoyed me. However many other people including my wife never heard a sound. I was impressed and knew if I used it correctly, this just might work. I began the training sessions with Buddy walking on my side. As a car passed, I could see him beginning the excitement stage. Just as he would begin to bark, I pressed the button and in a strong voice said NO! It worked. He broke from the excited stage and looked at me while the car passed. I did this several times and now he does not react to passing cars. Now when people knock at our door and he charges the door, we press the button and say STAY!. He stops in his tracks. I go to the door but if he breaks his STAY, I press the button and say STAY! again. A take out delivery guy stood at the door while we left it open and Buddy just stayed in position. This thing works, but maybe not for all dogs. Just as many people never heard the sound and I clearly did, some dogs may not react to it. If you are considering getting an ultrasonic device, maybe try one out to see if your dog reacts to it. But the device alone will not work. There must be training to along with it just as the E collar and many other correction devices. However, this one seems to be the most humane and easy to use. The good news is this device is not expensive, and like most things made of plastic will probably break if dropped or mishandled. However I will just purchase another if I break it because this thing really made a difference for both our family and Buddy.
