We were excited to find a black tower for our kitty to enjoy that wouldn't look hideous in our mostly black/modern apartment living room. The very reasonable price seemed almost too good to be true, but looking at the end result a month after setting it up for the kitty, I give this tower 5 stars.

At first there was some frustration, because the ikea-style directions mislabel two of the pieces, and instruct you to use the wrong piece right off the bat. We wondered why there was no bolt on the end of the first pole piece when there was a hole for a bolt to go into. Once we reached the end and had a pole with a bolt trying to match up to another piece with a bolt, we knew that first pole wasn't in the right place. Disassembled and reassembled -- not too big of a deal, but annoying.

We set it up in a corner near the window so our kitty could look outside. After a few weeks, she only ever went halfway up the tower and never jumped up to the top bucket-bed piece. We figured out that you could tug on the cloth/foam walls of the bucket piece and roll the fabric under so the kitty could see the now open top platform. After putting a treat or two up there, she started using the top area regularly.

She never crawls into the alcove, but she loves scratching on the posts, especially the top rope-covered post. She's not very into the dangly toys, but she likes the tower itself and when she's not on her favorite blanket, she's on the tower sleeping on the soft "kitty paw" landing or on the top tier.

I can see why some buyers complain that this tower is too small for big kitties. We have an adult female who likely had kittens at a young age, which will stunt a cat's growth. She is not a large cat, and this tower fits her perfectly. If she were any bigger, I doubt she'd be as comfortable sleeping on the landings or climbing up to the top tier. Another complaint is that the tower is too wobbly. It certainly wobbles on our carpeted floor when our kitty is climbing up onto the top landing, but we made sure to securely fasten the pieces together during construction, and I don't feel that it's dangerously unstable.

We could NOT train him, because he simply refused to walk on the leash, he just threw himself to the ground and was miserable (typical for cats). So, finally, after 4 weeks, we decided just to let him run with his collar and the zapper on (lowest zap!), and, he never came through the second cat door, but is a happy cat outside and in some rooms of the house ... we would never have been able to train him if we had installed it as a containing fence, he would never ever have walked on the leash. Our other cats - when we tried it - did the same: miserable huddles on the ground, no way they could be trained.

I was not a believer when I first ordered this product. I tried whistles, rocks in a can and an E collar to no avail. Our 87lb Giant Schnauzer, Buddy, just loved to bark at passing cars and strangers. When someone knocked on the door he went ballistic and had to be moved to the patio. The E collar worked, but not consistently. Sometimes the prongs weren't just right on his neck. Then when I thought about it, why would I want to shock him? I read a lot about the E collar and how to use it correctly. I thought if there was just something else that would break his attention when he got so focused on his barking and sometimes aggressive behavior. He was a perfect gentleman in every other way and a gentle giant. Well, after reading some reviews on not the product, but the theory of how an ultrasonic sound can break a dogs focus, I thought this might be worth a try. When I received it, I was satisfied with the feel and look. I first used it just to see if it would get our Giant's attention. Sure enough it did. He stopped what he was doing and looked at me. I listened in a quiet room by myself to see if I would hear it. Sure enough I did. It was like taking one of those hearing tests and when the sound gets higher and higher to where you just hear a slight hiss, that was the sound I heard. When I put it close to my ear, it annoyed me. However many other people including my wife never heard a sound. I was impressed and knew if I used it correctly, this just might work. I began the training sessions with Buddy walking on my side. As a car passed, I could see him beginning the excitement stage. Just as he would begin to bark, I pressed the button and in a strong voice said NO! It worked. He broke from the excited stage and looked at me while the car passed. I did this several times and now he does not react to passing cars. Now when people knock at our door and he charges the door, we press the button and say STAY!. He stops in his tracks. I go to the door but if he breaks his STAY, I press the button and say STAY! again. A take out delivery guy stood at the door while we left it open and Buddy just stayed in position. This thing works, but maybe not for all dogs. Just as many people never heard the sound and I clearly did, some dogs may not react to it. If you are considering getting an ultrasonic device, maybe try one out to see if your dog reacts to it. But the device alone will not work. There must be training to along with it just as the E collar and many other correction devices. However, this one seems to be the most humane and easy to use. The good news is this device is not expensive, and like most things made of plastic will probably break if dropped or mishandled. However I will just purchase another if I break it because this thing really made a difference for both our family and Buddy. This leash works so well that a 9 Year old can safely walk a 100lb Dog. The Leash is a Long Thick Rounded length of Material. It Clips to the Dogs Collar as normal leashes do.
